advertising makes the world go ’round

I’m happy to announce the highly-anticipated Art & Copy documentary directed by Doug Pray, is coming to the Sunset Laemmle September 11 through 17. I never thought the film would make it to Los Angeles. I’ve been trying to stay updated on its appearance in a town that survives on branding and snazzy heds.

Before you dismiss it as another film that advocates mass media and consumerism, read what the director has to say about the doc:

“What’s different and perhaps surprising about this movie, is that it isn’t about bad advertising, that 98% which so often annoys and disrespects its audience. I didn’t want to make a doc that just trashes trashy advertising. Too easy, too obvious, and why bother? Instead, granted access to a handful of the greatest advertising minds of the last fifty years, I felt it could be a more powerful statement to focus the film only on those rare few who actually moved and inspired our culture with their work. And that higher standard made me want to make a film that reflected the same kind of disciplined artistic approach that my subjects used.”

I was lucky enough to catch this documentary at the Newport Beach Film Festival this year and if you know what to expect from the documentary (that quote is pretty on point), then you’ll enjoy it. Glad this documentary got the recognition it needed.
